Dick was born in Illinois, moved to Minnesota at age 16. He has always had a deep passion for fishing and hunting from the time he was old enough to remember. His Dad introduced him to both sports at a very early age. Fishing was always more of a passion than hunting and he was fortunate enough to make a living through guiding and writing until he was nearly 40 years old.
In 1973 he decided to try archery hunting and was lucky enough to harvest a spike whitetail. Since that hunt, bowhunting has become his real passion with fishing taking a back seat. Moved to Arizona with his wife Lou Ann in 1985 and started a small business making custom cabinets. That took a lot of devotion and bowhunting took a back seat to that for a while but not for long! Lou Ann encouraged him to take some time off to relax and thought he should get the bow out again before getting "to old". That was good advice.
A few years back while at an ABA Banquet he filled out a slip of paper that said, "I would be interested in volunteering some time". Since then he have served as West Valley Rep.; Game and Fish Liaison (currently); Vice-Chairman; Chairman; Banquet Chairman for four years and currently Vice-Chairman again. He will be serving as Chairman through the end of the 2008 term and by then will be ready to retire. Board/Life Member of ABA, Life Member of IBO, Board/Life Member of DCA,Board member of Hunt of a Lifetime, member of ADA,AES,NWTF and AZSFW.
“If you ever see one of those slips of paper that asks if you could "volunteer a little time" for your favorite Sportsman's Organization, don't hesitate in filling it out. You never know where it might take you!”
